Darth Vader Amigurumi Pattern

Come to the dark side and make this fantastic Darth Vader for the Star Wars super-fan in your life. He's ready for some lightsaber action! Really, the dark side has never looked so cute! The doll's dimensions will end up being about 25 centimeters (10 inches) high and 17 centimeters (6.75 inches) wide.

What You'll Need:

  • Crochet needle (size depends on size of yarn, I used size 2.5)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Yarn (black, gray, green, red)
  • Stuffing material like Poly-Fil
  • Gray and black embroidery yarn (optional)

Abbreviations

  • MR: magic ring
  • Sc: Single crochet
  • Inc: increase (2 sc in 1 stitch)
  • Dec: decrease (1 sc in 2 stitches)
  • Inc dc: Increase (2 dc in 1 stitch)
  • Dc: double crochet

Head (in Black)

  • Round 1 : 6 sc in MR
  • Round 2 : Inc in each stitch
  • Round 3 : Repeat (1 sc, 1 inc)
  • Round 4 : Repeat (2 sc, 1 inc)
  • Round 5 : Repeat (3 sc, 1 inc)
  • Round 6 : Repeat (4 sc, 1 inc)
  • Round 7 : Repeat (5 sc, 1 inc)
  • Round 8 : Repeat (6 sc, 1 inc)
  • Round 9-15: sc around
  • Round 16: Repeat (6 sc, 1 dec)
  • Round 17: Repeat (5 sc, 1 dec)
  • Round 18: Repeat (4 sc, 1 dec)
  • Round 19: Repeat (3 sc, 1 dec)
  • Round 20: Repeat (2 sc, 1 dec)

Add the safety eyes approximately halfway on the head and stuff the head.

  • Round 22: 6 dec.

Close the remaining gap using a tapestry needle.

Stuff and sew to the head.

Legs (in Black) – Make Two!

  • Round 1 : Chain 6
  • Round 2 : Starting in 2nd stitch from hook 1 sc in each stitch for four stitches, 3 sc in corner stitch, 1 sc in each stitch for three stitches (on other side of original chain), 2 sc in corner stitch (is the same stitch as the first stitch in this round).
  • Round 3 : 1 inc, 3 sc, 3 inc, 3 sc, 2 inc.
  • Round 4: 1 sc, 1 inc, 4 sc, 1 inc, 1 sc, 1 inc, 1 sc, 1 inc, 4 sc, 1 inc, 1 sc, 1 inc

  • Round 6-10: sc around

Stuff and sew the legs to the body.

Arms (in Black) – Make Two!

  • Round 1 : Chain 5
  • Round 2: Starting in second stitch from hook: sc in each stitch for three stitches, 3 sc in corner stitch, 1 sc in each stitch for two stitches, 2 sc in corner stitch (is the same stitch as the second stitch from hook)
  • Round 3: 1 inc, 2 sc, 3 inc, 2 sc, 3 inc
  • Round 4-6: sc around

Mask (in Gray)

Working from the neck up to the part that joins the black “glasses”:

  • Row 1: Chain 12
  • Row 2: Turn, chain 1, repeat (1 sc, 1 inc)
  • Row 3: Turn, chain 1, repeat (2 sc, 1 inc)
  • Row 4: Turn, chain 1, repeat (3 sc, 1 inc)
  • Row 5: Turn, chain 1, repeat (4 sc, 1 inc)
  • Row 6: Turn, chain 1, repeat (5 sc, 1 inc)
  • Row 7: Turn, chain 1, repeat (6 sc, 1 inc)
  • Row 8: Turn, chain 1, sc in all stitches
  • Row 9: Turn, chain 1, slipstitch in all stitches
  • Row 10: Turn, chain 1, 16 sc, chain 20 (this will go around the “glasses”), 16 sc.

Sew to the head.

Helmet (in Black)

  • Round 1 : 6 sc in MR
  • Round 2 : Inc in each stitch

  • Round 13: Turn the project, chain 1, sc 34

Sew to the head with a stitch on the front, back, and each side.

Triangular Mask (Mouthpiece, in Black)

  • Row 1: Locate front center stitch on the helmet and make 1 sc two stitches on the right of left of the middle stitch. Continue with 4 more stitches. This way you end up with 5 sc in total around the middle of the front of the helmet.
  • Row 2: Turn, chain 1, dec, 1 sc, dec
  • Row 3: Turn, chain 1, dec the three stitches to one (you should be over the gray mask by now, if not, turn, chain 1 and 1 sc extra.
  • Row 4: (now we start with the triangle) inc
  • Row 5: Turn, chain 1, 2 inc
  • Row 6: Turn, chain 1, 4 sc
  • Row 7: Turn, chain 1, repeat (1 sc, 1 inc)
  • Row 8: Turn, chain 1, 6 sc, fasten off, leave the thread to sew.

Embroider the metallic details with gray yarn.

Neck (in Black and Gray)

  • Row 1: In black chain 36
  • Row 2: Turn, chain 1, sc 36

Sew to the body with stitches in the back of the body and the neck.

  • Row 2: Turn, chain 2, 1 dc in every stitch
  • Fasten off and sew to the body
  • Buckle (in gray yarn): Chain 3, turn, chain 1, 3 sc.

Fasten off and sew to the belt.

Breast Plate (in Gray)

  • Row 1: chain 10
  • Row 2: Turn, chain 1, 1 sc in every stitch
  • Row 3-14: Repeat row 2

Fasten off and sew to the body

Color details: chain 3, turn, chain 1, 3 sc.

Make one in red yarn and one in green yarn. Sew them to the breastplate.

Embroider the black details to the breastplate.

Sword (in Gray, Black and Red)

  • Round 1: In gray, 5 sc in MR
  • Round 2: sc around
  • Round 3-6: Switch to black, sc around
  • Round 7: Switch to gray, sc around
  • Round 8-32: Switch to red, sc around

Fasten off and sew the sword to the right arm.
