My favorite hobby is to crochet doll clothes. Using what I've learned from reading existing patterns, I create my own designs for Barbie.

If you like making your own accessories, this bracelet is an easy pattern and can easily fit any size wrist. Even after the bracelet is finished, it is still adjustable.

I have personally always had trouble finding a bracelet that fits right on my wrist, especially the bangle types. They tend to be too loose and will end up falling off of my hands if I let my arms relax. This pattern was inspired by my desire to find one that will suit different people and make measuring their wrists unnecessary due to it being adjustable.

This article is a free crochet pattern of an easily adjustable bracelet that is fastened by a button.

Materials and Gauge

  • You can use any size thread you want, but for the sample in the picture, I used size 10 crochet cotton thread in a variegated color.
  • 1 button of any size.
  • Gauge is not important here. I'll explain more later on how to make sure your button fits properly. For my hook, I used size 1 steel hook to make the change of color easy on the eyes.

Pattern

The pattern for this bracelet is derived from Stitch No. 3 of The Complete Book of Crochet Stitch Designs: 500 Classic & Original Patterns which you can find in the Amazon capsule to the right.

Note 1: S3 = Ch 3, skip the next 3 sts, sc in next st

  1. Chain a number divisible by 4 plus 2. So for my own bracelet, I chained 4 * 9 = 36 + 2 = 38. Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in the next 2 sts, S3, repeat S3 across to last 2 sts, sc in last 2 sts, turn.
  2. Ch 1, sc in first 3 sts, S3, repeat S3 across to last 2 sts, sc in last 2 sts, turn.
  3. Repeat 2. until desired width of bracelet. Make sure the number of rows are odd, so that the button can go in the middle of the band.
  4. Fasten off. Weave in all ends.
  5. Sew your button at one end of the band.

Note 2: As you are making S3, check to make sure your button fits in the hole you made as all these chain 3's will function as a possible button hole for your bracelet. If the holes are too small for your button, adjust the number of chains to 4 and sk 4 sts instead of 3, and try again. Of course, this means you will need to change the starting foundation chain of your bracelet.

Note 3: Notice that I purposely made tabs on opposite ends of the bracelet so you can sew on the buttons there. If, however, you find that your button does not fit those tabs, feel free to increase the number of sc on each side to fit your button.

Here is the back view of the closed bracelet. I made the button face inwards so it will not be visible.

Variations

  1. You can make your bracelets thicker or thinner depending on your taste.
  2. You can extend the chains in the pattern for a longer lacy effect.
  3. You can make your starting foundation chain longer and make an anklet.
  4. You can change colors for each row so the color effect will be uniform all throughout.

You can make your bracelets as thick or as thin as you want by adding or reducing the rows.

I would've never remembered to crochet a bracelet :) I can knit, but I'd like to learn to crochet and making bracelets is a great idea for beginners!
