In this guide, I'm going to show you the best ways to create your very own aesthetic bullet journal, complete with examples, themes and inspiration! By the end of this article, you'll have some ideas and themes to help inspire you and help you get started!
I've always loved making my bullet journal theme as aesthetic as possible, so I'm very excited to show you some creative inspiration to help you get started!
Try Adding Aesthetic Photos
You could try adding some aesthetic photos to your bullet journal, in order to enhance the aesthetic vibes you're hoping to recreate! These photos could include pastel shots, vintage sea or marine photos, or even any scenes from nature. From clouds to beaches to green forests, there's an astounding number of images available on Unsplash for you to make use of. Yes, the images are free to use also! Always make sure that the images you're hoping to print out and use are available for personal use, so that's why I usually use Unsplash.
Some examples of cool photos you could add include subjects such as:
- beaches and the sea
- grass or a grass/sky combination
- night sky
and so much more! You're only limited by your imagination!
Washi Tape Is Your Friend!
When it comes to aesthetic journaling, washi tape is your best friend! There are so many types of washi tapes you can make use of when journaling, from geometric patterns to beautiful floral tapes to everything-in-between.
You can add washi tape to wherever takes your fancy pretty much, and it'll always look good! I like to add washi tape to the borders of my bullet journal pages, but I also like adding photos to my pages, and then adding some washi tapes to the top of them. Of course, there are so many other uses for washi tapes also!
In the example below, the washi tape really adds a beautiful touch to the journal layout. The glitter and sparkles add some stunning magic to the journal overall, I must say!
Subtle Tones Work Well!
If you want to make your journal as aesthetic as possible, then making use of gentle and subtle hues can be beneficial and work wonders too. Adding some pastel washi tape to the corners of photos, or even as borders to your journal's pages can look truly stunning and add a gently beautiful effect to the pages.

You could also add pastel photos to your journal here and there, for example, photos of macarons or of cherry blossoms emit the pastel aesthetic!
Pastel Aesthetic Photo Examples
What constitutes an image containing the pastel aesthetic? Here are some examples!
- Macarons, deserts, and meringues
- Retro, hazy shots of cityscapes
- Cherry blossoms and other floral imagery
- The sea and sky
Aesthetic Journals or Covers
If you're still on the beginning of your bullet journaling journey, and wish to start your own aesthetic journal, then why not try purchasing a journal with an aesthetic design? There are so many adorable bullet journals out there, which contain all sorts of cute and lovely patterns from those with clouds to those with golden lettering and stars. I'd recommend looking on Etsy for these cute journals, you're sure to find some which catch your eye!
If, of course, you already have a journal and don't want to purchase a new one, you can always try decorating it with cute mettalic brush lettering or flower stickers or whatever you think would work best!
Cute, Shimmery Stickers
To enhance your journal's cuteness, why not try adding some adorable stickers to your journal also? There are so many cute sticker packs to choose from online, especially in Etsy shops, that I reckon you should definitely try using them in your journal layouts. For example, in the journal layout below, you'll find some lovely stickers featuring pastel pinks, flowers and even a metallic and adorable cat! What a cute layout to add!
When adding stickers to your journal, you can also try combining them with other elements such as ink stamps and washi tape. Why not add some patterned washi tape along with the stickers? Or some cute stamps?
I've found plenty of stamps online which feature amazing illustrations, including cosmic stamps, vintage letters, cute cats, and postage stamps. With just an ink pad and a stamp, you can unleash some beautiful magic within your journal. In the example below, some cute cats are added (using a stamp) to the top of the middle sticker, aren't they adorable?
Take Inspiration From Nature
When aiming to make your bullet journal or bujo as aesthetic as possible, try taking inspiration from nature! It surrounds us every day and yet sometimes we can fail to see it's beauty before us, or can take it for granted sometimes.
That's why it's so important to look to nature, and find the true beauty within. We can then channel this into our bullet journaling!
For example, during the summer months, cherry blossom trees are in full bloom, with the most beautiful pastel pink blossoms there are! It's a wondrous sight to marvel at, and you could use this to inspire you for your next bullet journaling session! Why not try adding photos of cherry blossoms to your journal pages? You could try searching for free photos on Pixabay or Unsplash, as the images are free for use personally. Make sure you get permission for any photos you add, but you don't need to get permission on Unsplash or Pixabay as the images there are free to use.
Try adding photos or stickers of beaches, oceans, mountains, whatever takes your fancy pretty much!
I've also found cute sticker packs online, which feature gorgeous scenes from nature including gushing rivers, bubbling springs, blue mountains, and other beautiful imagery. These sticker packs are available from stores on Etsy, if you're looking for them!
