Creative Inspiration for May

If you're looking for cute and creative bullet journal ideas for the month of May, then you've come to the right place! In this article, we're going to be taking a look at some of the coolest themes and ideas for the month of May to help kickstart your creativity for this month!

May is a glorious time of year, and one of my favourite months there is! It's the time when the first moments of summer seem apparent, and the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. A time to reflect, a time to look forward to.

Let's get started!

1. Natural and Earthy Theme

I've always adored the month of May for the beautiful weather, the blooming of cherry blossoms, and just getting the chance to be outside in the lovely weather more! That's why I've always liked celebrating the power of nature and its lasting effect through my bullet journaling.

In the example layout below, you'll find a refreshing, earthy tone throughout, which I absolutely adore. From the pastel blue highlighter to the gentle bordering and everything-in-between, this has all the hallmarks of a lovely theme! I think the floral stickers shown also would make a great touch to this layout too!

May Bullet Journaling Ideas and Themes

Cherry blossoms

May is the month of cherry blossoms, so why not celebrate by including beautiful cherry blossom photos or stickers in your journal? Or you could add Sakura style washi tape to your journal also!

Pastel tones

Gentle, pastel hues also work wonders; try adding balmy lemon, mint green and subtle pink hues to your journal.

2. Pink or Fuschia Theme

May is the month of cherry blossoms, and so, I thought a pink theme would be fitting for this month! You could try adding fuschia-tinted floral patterns to your bullet journal.

Pink, pastel highlighters would also be useful if you're planning on adding this theme to your journal. You could try adding pink titles with highlighter, for example! I'm a huge fan of pastel highlighters, but if you can't find these or can't get them shipped to your country, then you could also try regular pink highlighters, they work a charm too! From beautiful cursive titles to elaborate lettering, there's no limit to the types of titles you can create.

3. Kraft Paper and Pastels

Another theme which I'm a huge fan of is making use of pastel colors, alongside kraft paper. Kraft paper just lends such a lovely vintage touch to bullet journals, and it really gives it a slightly old-fashioned, cool vibe. Why not pair it with pastel colors for an added twist?

In the example below, you'll find kraft paper alongside beautiful pastel yellow tones. What a fantastic combination, I must say! Since May is all about the coming of Summer, I think that bright, vibrant colors can often work well with pastel tones too, so this combination is just magical. I'd definitely recommend you give it a try!

4. Metallic Shine

Several metallic tapes have been rising in popularity recently, as well as holographic stickers, stars, and other journaling items. May is a month where Summer is just on the way, or pretty much already there, so how about adding some punch to your journal with metallic tapes and stickers?

I've found confetti golden stars in several art supplies stores too, and always loved adding them to my journal pages. I simply added some Pritt stick to the backs of the stars and stuck them onto the pages, it added a shiny and cool effect overall. I'd definitely recommend giving holographic stickers and shiny confetti a try!

5. Cherry Blossoms

Cherry blossoms are in full bloom during the month of May, and so, this would be a very fitting theme for your bullet journal! I have several Sakura styled cherry blossom washi tapes, and love using them during this month, as their pretty pastel colors and beautiful blooms really evoke such a lovely aesthetic overall. There are so many cute washi tapes out there, so make sure to have a look at these and see if you'd like to incorporate any into your journaling! Cherry blossom washi tapes and pink floral tapes are just perfect for the month of May, without a doubt!

Cherry blossoms, are in their essence, nothing short of beautiful, so why not include them in your journal too? You could print photos of cherry blossoms from Unsplash, since the photos there are free, and make use of them in your journal!

6. Watercolors/Stickers

Refreshing watercolor stickers can add a lovely pop to any journal, and I'd wholeheartedly recommend buying some watercolors to help you out with this! Watercolors help recreate that refreshing, bountiful feeling that's so present in nature, so adding some lovely watercolor paintings to your journal could be a great way to celebrate May.

If you're not much of a painter, like myself, you could also try buying stickers, which can help recreate the feeling! There are plenty of watercolor stickers available in art supply stores and Etsy shops, so never fear if painting isn't up your alley! If you're looking for places to get these, several Instagram accounts also provide cool giveaways too, such as Stationery Weekly. I've found these to be great places to get some free stationery through giveaways. So there are plenty of ways to get your hands on some stickers!

I've provided some lovely examples of watercolor stickers below, those ice lollies would add a lovely touch to any bullet journal; talk about refreshing!

7. Fruit Theme

Bright, punchy fruits can really add some Summer vibes to your journal. From refreshing citrus fruits to velvety strawberries and every fruit in between, every fruit brings with it an abundance of energy and verve.

I'm a huge fan of adding citrus fruit stickers to my journals, including juicy oranges, zesty lemons and pink grapefruits. They make for amazing combinations, I must say!

You can get these stickers from online shops on Etsy, but art supplies stores may sell them too, so it's worth taking a look there too!

8. Bright, Floral Patterns

Vibrant floral patterns are also a fantastic way to help evoke feelings of Summer that is oncoming, and what better way to do so than to add floral designs to your bullet journal?

In the example below, you'll find bright, floral bookmarks which can easily be inserted into a bullet journal for an extra punch. I absolutely adore these energetic and vibrant designs, and they'd certainly remind me that Summer is pretty much here!

You can make these bookmarks by getting a patterned card, and then cutting it into strips. These bookmarks or strips can then be added as borders to a page in your bullet journal.

Geometric patterns, including stripes, polka dots, and stars are all lovely additions to any bullet journal, and you could definitely try a themed spread for the month of May too! Try adding washi tapes with cute pink polka dots, or rose gold polka dots, these all would help evoke the feelings of summer that is on the way.

You'll see an example below, which features black polka dots, and they certainly add some magic to the planner, without a doubt! I think that these patterns really evoke such a lovely aesthetic, and there are so many possibilities overall. From gold polka dots to pink stripes and everything in between, there are so many cool geometric patterns out there to help decorate your planner.

10. Leafy Green

Since May is all about celebrating Summer, we're more likely to be spending time outside than indoors, and so what better way to decorate you're journal than through celebrating nature and all it has to offer! From leafy green patterns to tree stickers, there are so many lovely stickers and washi tape designs you could add to your bullet journal.

I find mint green to be such a refreshing color, and I'm sure you will too once you start making use of this color in your bullet journals. It's so refreshing to look at, and I absolutely adore recreating nature themes with mint green washi tapes and landscape photos!
