What are loom bands?

The bands are basically coloured rubber bands, which the current generation of creative children is fashioning into jewellery. You don't need to buy any other equipment to make a bracelet—you can do it all by hand!

  • The age range is wide, from younger children with their adult helpers to teenagers all sporting their homemade masterpieces.
  • A special loom can be bought for ease of use, but fear not! You can still fashion a bracelet without the expense of buying one.

After spending some time as an assistant designer, I now feel I have the know-how to help my fellow parents out there. So, this was my easy guide on how to help your children design and make their own bracelet in around ten minutes, without any other equipment except the bands.

You can see how tiny the actual Loom Bands are. It is amazing something so small can be such a huge hit!

Remember to keep your Loom Bands away from pets and small children to avoid a choking hazard.

Ten minutes effort is all that is needed.

Hi Faith

It is amazing how huge something so simple as elastic bands has become. You and your granddaughter will have a good time designing and creating; we did. :)

Faith Reaper from southern USA on July 06, 2014:

Oh, thank you for this, as I bought a kit (with the loom) for my oldest granddaughter, who is six now, and I have yet to figure it out even using the loom lol ... I think we will try your method without the loom. With your easy step-by-step instructions, I am sure it will be so easy and fun for all.

Voted up and more and away

Thank you Dreamhowl

I like your name it sounds cool and mysterious. I am glad it is of help, I found it a bit tricky at first, to be honest... until I ditched the instructions and winged it. :)

Hi DJ

That was nice of his great niece. Thank you for reading, hopefully it will help some parent's out there to skip the 'figuring out how to make it' stage.

Hi, Anna,

I have seen kids wearing these bracelets and thought they were quite unique. When my husband went to visit his sister, his great niece made

one for him. It was very sweet of her.

Your instructions were basic and very clear.

Nice hub!

DJ.

Shauna L Bowling from Central Florida on July 01, 2014:

This looks like a fun project for kids, Anna. It would be a good activity for birthday parties. Everyone gets to make their own party favors and keeps them busy!

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on July 01, 2014:

Very detailed instructions and nicely done, Anna. I'll pass this on to my step-daughter. I'm sure she will enjoy it.

Have a great day my friend.

I bought these rubber bands to basically see what the fuss was about, and your instructions are better than the printed ones included! Their instructions don't have the rubber band attached to the s-clip bent at all, which looks odd on the finished product. I will be following your hub instead!

Anna Haven (author) from Scotland on July 01, 2014:

Thank you for reading Frank and for commenting; especially as I know it so far removed from your chosen genre.

After making them by trial and error. I feel that a ten minute make, with easy instructions would be a big help for parents. :)

Frank Atanacio from Shelton on July 01, 2014:

looks like a lot of fun even for kids love the hub voted up and awesome :)
