Bottle Charms: A DIY Guide for Creating Magical Miniature Crafts

Miniature Bottle Crafts
Magic jars and bottles are quite fun to craft, and handy to decorate a room with the theme of your favorite mythical story. Tiny bottles give the hobbyist the option to create magical charms that may dangle off a key ring or hang as a necklace. These are crafty DIY little charms to match the miniature creations of your favorite theme.
There are quite a few sizes of tiny bottles that can be found at the craft store. There are generally two sizes in the craft section of a Walmart or the dollar tree: big ones and small ones. You may choose whichever size you prefer. For three of these examples, I used the bigger size of the miniature bottles to create magical charms.
Sea Foam Bottle Charm
Create this Sea Foam jar to add a touch of magic to your charm collection. Whether you’re a fan of mermaids or love the ocean, this little seashell jar is a unique ornament to carry.
You will need:
- Small seashell
- Very small glass jar
- Jewelry chain
- Glitter (Three different glitters including small glitter flakes. You may choose any colors you wish, though blue white and silver match the ocean theme.
- Hot glue
Step 1
Paint a small seashell blue. Let dry!
Step 2
Mix three different kinds of glitter—glitter flakes, blue, and silver glitter—until they are one shimmering mixture. Then pour into small jar!
Step 3
Hot-glue the tip of seashell inside the top of jar.
Step 4
You may attach anything you wish to the little jar. A colored craft chain or keychain is best. You may purchase a blue chain at Walmart, Dollar Tree, or Hobby Lobby. Glue the chain on both sides of the jar. You can glue the last two links of each end of chain on one side of jar. Be sure to glue links underneath the rim of jar and on the opposite side of the jar. Then you will have a sea foam bottle charm!

Harry Potter House Bottle Charms
For those who are readers of the Harry Potter series and fans of the franchise, you will be aware that each house strived to gain as many points as possible to win the house cup. These charms are tiny bottles that will win the magical points with the powder of each house color.
You will need:
- Tiny bottles
- Small button rings
- Blue, red, green, and yellow glitter
- Blue, red, green, and yellow paint
- Gold and silver glitter (optional)
- Hot glue or strong craft glue
Step 1
Paint quarks of bottles, each with a house color. Let dry!
Step 2
Paint house letters on each tiny bottle.
Step 3
Hot-glue small metal rings on quark. You may use jewelry rings for earrings or pendants. These are tiny button rings. Apply small dots of hot glue or craft glue when applying; try to avoid large globs.
Optional: Add glitter to drying glue.
Step 4
Add each glitter of house color to bottles. The colors vary from the books to movies, but for the purpose of this charm craft, I will use:
- Ravenclaw: blue and silver glitter
- Hufflepuff: yellow glitter
- Gryffindor: red and gold glitter
- Slytherin: green and silver glitter
It is not necessary to fill each tiny bottle! After all, why give Slytherin house a generous amount of house points?

Put glitter in each glass jar! Be sure to choose matching color of glitter for each specific house color.
Step 5
Hot-glue tiny quarks inside the top of bottles.
That’s it. Enjoy your favorite Harry Potter house charm!
Love Potion Bottle Charm
Love potion number nine or that tricky spell to snag the love of your life! A love potion is a wonderful little charm to add to the collection.
You will need:
- Small bottle
- Miniature metal eye
- Hot glue
- Red paint
- Red or pink glitter
- Glycerol and water
Step 1
Paint quark red. Let dry!
Step 2
Gently screw the eye into the quark and add a spot of hot glue.
Step 3
Paint a red heart on to the glass bottle (you may have to let dry, and paint over twice.) I used acrylic paint. Since it is tricky to paint with acrylic paint on glass, you may use a craft pen or marker that is specifically for glass art.
Step 4
Put rosy glitter (you may use red or pink), inside of small bottle.
Step 5
Then add drops of glycerol, and nearly fill bottle with water. Stop at the curve of bottle. The glycerol gives the effect of glitter floating. The glitter will also move from top to bottom when the bottle is moved up and down.
Step 6
Hot-glue quark inside the top of bottle charm.

Hot glue quark into bottle. Be sure not to fill bottle with liquid so that the glue does not get wet before drying.
Fairy Dust Bottle Charm
Fairy dust is a magical ingredient to keep handy. This little bottle charm is ideal to keep for the miniature collection of fairies, magical ingredients, or that tiny mythical garden.
You will need:
- Small bottle
- Split ring
- Green paint
- Tiny fake pollen branch
- Yellow glitter
- Hot glue
Step 1
Paint quark green. Let dry!
Step 2
Spill yellow glitter into the bottle.

Put glitter into bottle. This is a metal top to squeeze frosting and décor on cakes. It works great as a glitter funnel.
Step 3
Put a little branch of fake pollen into the bottle. I cut this tiny branch off a bundle of fake flowers. It was small enough to fit in bottle.
Step 4
Hot-glue quark into top of bottle. Be careful not to apply too much glue. Optional: sprinkle glitter on drying glue.
Step 5
Hot-glue tiny split ring to the top of quark.
You may glue split ring to quark before gluing the quark into bottle if you wish.
All done! Now you may keep this small bottle of fairy dust.
Enjoy these little magical charms, each with its own spell and enchanting dust!
